BLEPHAROPLASTY (eyelid lift) is cosmetic surgery of the eyelids. Typically, in the upper eyelid it is used to remove excess skin and fat that covers the upper eyelid. A common complaint from women who would benefit from blepharoplasty is “no one can tell if I am wearing eye shadow”. In severe cases, this excess tissue may interfere with a patient’s vision. In these cases, insurance will often cover the cost; your eye doctor must document the amount of vision interference with your insurance company. An incision is made in the upper eyelid crease and is nearly undetectable after healing. A lower eyelid blepharoplasty is used to remove fat that causes “bags” below the eyes. These bags increase with age, but for some people are hereditary and are present even at a young age. The incision is most commonly made inside the lower eyelid, making it undetectable. A chemical peel of the lower eyelid skin may be performed at the same time to remove small wrinkles in this skin. |

LIPOSUCTION is a common way to remove excess fat from the chin and neck area. Small incisions are made in the chin and at the base of the earlobe and a small (less than the diameter of a pencil) wand is used to remove fat deposits. After the procedure, the patient must wear a compressive head wrap for 2 weeks |
